Lessons learned from Superbowl advertising.
If you can’t get a date, but lack the confidence to sexually assault somebody, an Audi can help you initiate non-consensual sexual activities AND escape and afterwards.
Aw Drew…I told your Dad that someone was going to bring up the sexual harassment angle…
I saw the commercial as a sweet story on teen angst. We’ve all been there. Maybe we all need to lighten up a bit, and just smile and enjoy life a bit more, rather then always looking for the negative.
If he had kissed a boy without permission, would you see it the same way?
But it wasn’t. I see it more along the genre of one of your old favorite movies, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”
It was cute and sweet. Nothing more.
Why is it “cute” only when it happens to a woman? If a man forcibly kissed me, I would be upset, and I think you would, too. But somehow, its ok to treat women this way?
Anyway, the point of this post was not to expose the sexism of our culture, but to mock Audi. They have just put it out there that their car is for creepy losers. That is a very bad strategy for what had been a very cool brand.
I agree with Linda, the story is fun, it’s classic, and they only had 60 seconds to tell it. However Drew, I agree, unless their advertising executive is autistic, this commercial is trying to target the mojo 40-50 year old men, which does make it creepy/silly/pathetic. “I can’t go back in time to kiss the girl, but I can go buy a cool car like I always wanted.” – what an intrepid shopper. So I guess yes an/d/rew 🙂 you make me smile good sir.
